Standing Out to Compete with Online Retailers

In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, it’s easy to feel like a small fish in a massive e-commerce ocean. Good News! You don’t need to be the biggest fish; you just need to be the most memorable one. In this article, we’ll dive into how to stand out and compete with those online retail giants.

Let’s face it—online retailers have shaken up the retail industry. With convenience at their fingertips, consumers are opting to shop online more than ever before. Statistics show that online retail sales have been steadily climbing by an impressive 15% each year.

While online shopping offers convenience, there’s still magic to the brick-and-mortar experience that online retailers can’t replicate. Did you know that 64% of consumers believe physical stores provide a richer shopping experience? How can you create this memorable experience in your business?

There are many tactics, but for this article I want to focus on the power of product or service demonstrations. Product or service demonstrations can be a game-changing strategy and one I encourage you to incorporate into your marketing strategy.

For instance, in my bakery we would host cookie decorating events on a regular basis. This would be a time to teach techniques and allow our customers to have fun experimenting and creating their own. The goal was to have customers engage, learn, and have a complete, memorable experience.

If you are a clothing store, you may host seasonal fashion shows or seminars on how to accessorize your outfits. Service providers such as insurance agents, offer education, webinars, or pieces of training on a particular topic that is in your zone of genius.

The point is, that every one of your businesses has a product demonstration or educational element that will help you stand out in your local community and attract foot traffic into your doors.

Engagement events do a few powerful things for your brand:

  • They help you become known as the expert in your industry.
  • They open up doors to have current customers invite new ones.
  • They allow real relationships to be created between a business and a customer/client.

An engaging experience helps customers put your brand in front of minds, make you memorable, and ultimately drive revenue.

Pause: Think about your business, what can you create to enhance and create a memorable experience?
